Washington, DC CapitolCats, the UA Alumni Association, Office of the President,
and the Office of Federal Relations present the UA President's Distinguished Speaker
Series

Featured Speaker
Nasser Peyghambarian, Ph.D.
Chair of Photonics and Lasers, UA College of Optical Sciences
Director of the National Science Foundation's Engineering Research Center for Integrated
Access Networks
Professor of Optical Sciences
Professor of Materials Science and Engineering

Dr. Nasser Peyghambarian is Chair of Photonics and Lasers in the University of Arizona's
College of Optical Sciences and Director of our NSF Engineering Research Center,
the Center for Integrated Access Networks (CIAN). CIAN was created in 2008 through
an 18.5 million NSF grant with goal of transforming the Internet to a high-speed
network that uses less energy, is more reliable so that it reconfigures itself
around network impairments, is scalable to make it suitable for a growing number
of end users, and is not overly expensive to build and maintain.

Dr. Peyghambarian will be introduced by the College of Optical Science's new Dean,
Thomas L. Koch. Dean Koch's research has focused on semiconductor optoelectronics
and optical fiber communications, including photonic integrated circuits and silicon
photonics. He holds 36 patents and has authored more than 335 papers and presentations.
After tours of duty in both industry and higher education, Dr. Koch will helm UA's
College of Optical Sciences, the world's premier optical institute, with outstanding
faculty members, an international student body, a challenging curriculum, pioneering
research programs and close relationships with the optics industry.

Join us for light hors d'oeuvres and a no-host bar at 6:00 p.m., followed by a 6:30
p.m. program. Walk-ins gladly accepted.
