Erin and Aaron

It was January 2003, and my girlfriends and I had made our weekly pilgrimage to O’Malley’s on 4th to dance the night away with our favorite ’80s cover band, the Mockingbirds. Once on the dance floor, I immediately noticed that the band had a new (and very cute) bassist. Although he and I proceeded to make eyes at each other for the rest of the night, neither of us could work up the nerve to start a conversation. This silent flirtation went on for the entire Spring semester, much to the amusement of our respective groups of friends.

Flash forward to Dead Day 2003, and once again we found ourselves at O’Malley’s… only this time, that cute bassist actually walked right over and introduced himself. After that awkward moment when we realized that we essentially had the same name, we hit it off incredibly well.

Aaron and I quickly became inseparable, and within those first few weeks I knew that this was the man I was going to marry. Aaron and I spent the next few years of our relationship pursuing our respective passions. I completed a doctorate in clinical psychology in Washington D.C., while he toured the U.S. and Japan with a punk rock band. The distance was tough at times, but ultimately made us stronger both individually and as a couple.

Aaron proposed on New Year’s Eve 2007 in Times Square, and we were married in April 2009 with three Wildcats in the bridal party (as well as many more in attendance). There are a million reasons why I love U of A… but meeting Aaron will always top the list!
