Gabriella '85 and Roque '86
When Roque Luna, born in NYC, finished his tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force, he went to Italy on vacation. It was there he met a young woman from Catania, Sicily, named Gabriella Albanese and, for both, it was love at first sight. Gabriella left Sicily two years later to start her master of arts in linguistics at the University of Arizona on a Fulbright Scholarship. While studying at UA, she taught Italian at the French and Italian Department.
Roque followed her to Tucson, and started taking classes at Pima Community College in business. He later transferred to UA into the school of Business and Public Administration (now Eller College of Management). Gabriella finished her master's in 1985 and then went on to work on her doctorate. Roque graduated in 1986. The lovers married and their first daughter, Stephanie, was born in Tucson. Stephanie (seen in the photo) is finishing her degree at the University of Bologna. Their second daughter, Jacqueline, was born in Milan, and is also attending the University of Bologna.
Roque and Gabriella both LOVE the UA and look forward to visiting soon. They currently reside in Venice, Italy, where Gabriella is an English teacher, and Roque is manager of retail operations at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. We had a wonderful visit with them – getting to know them made our trip!
