A Place for Wellness
Remembering Sandy Davis
The friendships and relationships I forged at the University of Arizona literally changed my life. That’s where I met my late wife, Sandy, at the end of my sophomore year. When I think of Arizona, I think of her.
Our daughters, Wendy and Kimberly, both chose Arizona as well, and our family has many wonderful memories of our time there.
Sandy was a warm, caring and special person and someone who had a profound effect, not only on me and our girls, but on virtually everyone with whom she came into contact. It was only one of the characteristics that drew me to her during our time at Arizona.
She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at age 45 and died when she was 49. It was our time at Arizona that drove me to have her remembered here on campus in a tangible and visible way.
When I decided to make a gift to the university, I considered a number of options. Assisting Campus Recreation in expanding their already wonderful programs was one way to benefit a broad spectrum of the Arizona community. I just can’t think of anything better than having a place to exercise and promote wellness.
I visit campus several times a year to check out the amazing changes occurring on campus and catch up with my friends. My fraternity, Zeta Beta Tau, has reunions about every five years, and we get a great response. We all have great memories of Arizona, and everyone loves coming back to Tucson.
Now, when I visit with my girls and my grandchildren, Sandra and Davis, and see that sign on Bear Down Field, it will be gratifying to know my gift is helping students and honoring Sandy’s legacy in such a meaningful way.
