Your Dream Job Awaits
The Arizona Online road map to success
Wildcat Joey Katzen’s path to the University of Arizona included a few stops and starts along the way.
Katzen enrolled in community college after high school in his native Southern California, but found it wasn’t a good fit.
“I wasn’t doing my best, and my grades reflected that,” he says.
Katzen decided to take a break and entered the workforce to make ends meet. Long hours proved daunting, and he soon realized he wanted better career opportunities. He eventually enrolled in online classes at Rio Salado College, a UA community college partner, which has campuses in the Phoenix area.
His next stop: Arizona Online.
A university adviser provided a clear road map for transferring to Arizona Online. Katzen also applied to the top-ranked Eller College of Management to pursue his online B.S. in business administration.
“When I first got the letter of acceptance from Eller, it meant a lot to me because I’ve had difficulty succeeding in school and doing well,” Katzen says.
Now, Katzen is working toward his bachelor’s degree and certificates in finance and sports management. He also has access to networking and career development resources to help him land his dream job.
Online education provides Katzen with not only career readiness but also plenty of flexibility. While working toward his degree, he also has pursued his other interests, including work as an ice hockey referee. He plans, he says, to connect his passion for ice hockey and his college degree.
“My dream job is to work analytics for an ice hockey team. I’m very involved in ice hockey, and being able to do analytics and figure out which players to draft or find contracts with would be great.”
