Remembering David Hepburn Evans Jr.: March 19, 1927–July 6, 2021
Alumni chapter and club leaders from around the country are saddened by the loss of longtime San Diego alumni chapter leader Dave Evans ’51. At UArizona, Dave was a cheerleader and president of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha. He loved playing tennis in the Tucson climate.
Dave graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering. He came to UArizona after serving in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve from 1945 to 1950.
Dave worked as an engineer for General Electric and a sales engineer for Johns Manville. In 1960, he began his 57-year career as a stockbroker in La Jolla, California.
Dave was one of UArizona’s biggest advocates. Beginning in 1953, he served three times as president of the San Diego alumni chapter. He also was treasurer for over 50 years. It was one of his greatest passions to help raise scholarship funds for students in the San Diego area to attend UArizona.
And since 1999, he showed his Wildcat spirit by writing Dave’s Arizona Sports Report. Whether he was at home or traveling with his wife, Janet, he emailed the newsletter to 1,300 readers nearly every Monday.
