Donald Lee Baker

2026 AOY Honoree, College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture - Class of 2014

Donald Lee Baker was a transformative force in Arizona real estate. Over his four-decade career, he developed more than 2.2 million square feet of commercial space valued at over $300 million. In 1994, he co-founded Larsen Baker LLC, where his portfolio spanned 48 properties with more than 350 national, regional and local tenants. Known for his vision, integrity and collaborative spirit, Don was deeply respected by peers and partners alike.

Don took great pride in being among the first graduates of the master’s in real estate development program at the University of Arizona College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture. He became a passionate advocate, mentor and recruiter for the program, eager to give back and support future real estate professionals.

Beyond business, Don was a dedicated community leader. He served as board chair and led the capital campaign for and construction of the Tucson Hebrew Academy and was on the board and executive committee of the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona. His work reflected his belief in education, service and building strong communities.

Don is remembered by faculty, colleagues and students for his humility and generosity. He embodied CAPLA’s core values throughout his life and career, and his legacy continues to inspire.

For his exemplary leadership in real estate development, lifelong commitment to education and mentorship, and lasting impact on both the college and the broader Tucson community, the University of Arizona is honored to posthumously name Donald Lee Baker the 2026 Alumnus of the Year for the College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture.
