When

2:30 – 4 p.m., Oct. 23, 2026

Please join the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Mechanics for a symposium focused on the intersection of our built environment and energy, ranging from human interaction and controls to grid-scale integration. This year, we are excited to announce that our Centennial Lecturer will be Dr. Xin Jin, leader of the Grid Edge and Advanced Controls Group at the Building and Industrial Energy Innovation Center at the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR). Dr. Jin will be discussing how advanced controls and energy storage can make buildings and industrial facilities more flexible in their electricity use, helping improve grid reliability and affordability. The talk will also highlight research examples and opportunities for collaboration among national laboratories, universities and industry. Prior to our Centennial Lecture, the event will include an opening presentation by Prof. Doug Stingelin on the exciting, young history of Architectural Engineering at the University of Arizona, followed by brief research presentations by Dr. Wooyoung Jung on advances in human-AI-building interactions, and Dr. Liang Zhang on AI and building energy systems. We look forward to seeing you at the Centennial Lecture for this Homecoming Weekend event, which is open to all campus and alumni participants.

Registration is required.

Check-in will begin at 2:15 p.m.
