2026 AOY Honoree, College of Education - Class of 1977 and 1980
Maura Mulligan has spent her life shaping brighter futures for students, educators and her community. A two-time graduate of the University of Arizona, Maura earned her bachelor’s in rehabilitation in 1977 and her master’s of education in 1980. She went on to serve as a teacher of students with special needs.
For more than 30 years, Maura worked in the Tucson Unified School District, primarily at Erickson Elementary School, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students through her compassion and dedication.
As an educator, Maura consistently went above and beyond. She launched programs like the Snack Pack initiative to provide food for students in need, and she advocated for equitable and inclusive practices to help students from marginalized backgrounds succeed. And Maura’s service extended far beyond the classroom. She has championed education and youth programs through local organizations, leading projects like free vision screenings for preschoolers and international youth exchanges.
A devoted Wildcat, Maura currently serves as co-president of the College of Education Alumni Council, where she spearheads fundraising efforts, mentors students and builds strong alumni connections. She and her husband, Kevin, are generous donors to the college, supporting scholarships and outreach programs like the Cooper Center for Environmental Learning and the Worlds of Words Center.
Maura Mulligan exemplifies the spirit of a Wildcat for Life — an inspiring educator, tireless volunteer and passionate advocate for children, education and community. The University of Arizona is pleased to name her the 2026 Alumna of the Year for the College of Education.
