8 Ways We're Making an Impact
1. UArizona placed No. 3 among American research institutions for Fulbright U.S. Scholar awards this year, setting a new university record with 11.
2. The University of Arizona and Tucson Electric Power have embarked on a 100% clean energy project to provide the campus with enough emission-free power from new solar, storage and wind systems to serve all its purchased power needs for 20 years. UArizona is the largest research university in the country to offset the entirety of its Scope 2 emissions.
3. The university serves as a COVID-19 vaccine point of distribution for Pima County and the State of Arizona. As more vaccine doses become available, the site will operate around the clock and serve 6,000 people per day.
4. The Covid Watch Arizona Exposure Notification app continues to help fight the virus’s spread on campus by sending anonymous alerts to users who have been in contact with someone who tested positive. At press time, nearly 70,000 people had downloaded the app at UArizona and NAU.
5. Last year’s Fuel the Response crowdfunding effort raised $1.3 million for students through the Richard H. Tyler Student Emergency Fund and Campus Pantry. Supporters can step up again to help at crowdfund.arizona.edu/fueltheresponse.
6. Arizona Online made the top 10 in the 2021 U.S. News & World Report ranking of the 337 Best Online Bachelor’s Programs. The ranking of No. 7 overall and No. 6 among public universities is a 74-spot jump from the program’s inaugural 2017 appearance.
7. UArizona ranks in the top 4% of all U.S. universities in research and development expenditures and No. 1 in astronomy and astrophysics, according to the National Science Foundation.
8. For the first time, UArizona was included on Forbes Magazine’s annual list of America’s Best Large Employers. The university placed at No. 16 out of 500 employers and No. 4 in the education subcategory.
